The Art of Craft Storage
As a professional organizer, I often see craft rooms go from delightful creativity hubs to chaotic messes. However, with a little strategy, craft storage can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
As a professional organizer, I often see craft rooms go from delightful creativity hubs to chaotic messes. However, with a little strategy, craft storage can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Categorizing your crafts by type and project can save you time and stress. For example, keeping all your knitting supplies in one place and your scrapbooking tools in another can streamline your crafting process.
Utilize clear bins for storage. These allow you to see what's inside, eliminating the need to rummage through a sea of supplies.
Consider vertical storage. Wall-mounted pegboards or shelves can hold a variety of containers, tools, and materials. This not only saves space but also keeps your supplies within easy reach.
Label everything. This simple step can prevent confusion and help you locate your supplies quickly.
Remember, an organized craft room is a productive one. Happy crafting!

What is the CHAOS Method™ of Organization?

Have you ever wondered how we organize our clients’ homes? Or maybe where to start when organizing your own home?
We use the CHAOS Method™ to organize and here is what that means:
C – Categorize
H – Is it helpful or hurtful?
A – Take Action
O – Organize
S – Simplify
C - Categorize
As you are going through your belongings, it is important to put them into categories. Like items with like items. You will get a better idea about whether or not you need to hold onto four can openers, for instance.
H - Hurtful or helpful
As you go through your belongings ask yourself, is this item helpful or hurtful? Are you asking yourself how a tank top can be either helpful or hurtful? Well, what emotion does it elicit? This follows what Marie Kondo talks about and she has a valid point. What emotion do you feel? Go with your gut. If the emotion is not positive, that probably means you should eliminate it from your life.
A - Action
Take action once you have decided how you feel about a possession. Discard, donate, or keep.
O - Organize
Get containers to store your items.
S - Simplify
Label everything to set your family and yourself up for success in maintaining your organization systems.
Now enjoy the fruits of your efforts, sit back, and relax!

Makeup and Mardi Gras have a lot to do with organization! Keeping a well-organized makeup drawer can save you time and money when getting ready for a night out. When it comes to Mardi Gras, organization is essential for making sure the celebration runs smoothly.
Use the C.H.A.O.S Method to get your makeup organized
C- Categorize
Take everything out of your drawer and put like items with like items. That means mascara with mascara, lipsticks with lipsticks, etc.
H- Hurtful or Helpful
What emotion does your makeup elicit? Do you like wearing it; does it make you feel good?
A- Action
Take action once you’ve decided how you feel about each item. Keep the Make-up you love and Discard expired make-up (so you don’t get a nasty rash on your face) and what you don’t like.
Here are some common make-up expiration dates
O- Organize
We like trays like these to help keep our makeup organized. They come in various sizes, so be sure to measure the space before ordering.
S- Simplify
Label each tray to set yourself up for success in the mornings and for ease of retrieval.
After the parades, costumes, and other festivities, ensure your mardi gras decorations are organized.
Three tips to keep it organized:
Use a Storage bin with dividers – this will make it easy to separate different colors and types of beads. Keep your costumes in good condition for next year by wrapping in plastic for next year.
Go Vertical – Use a pegboard so you can hang your mardi gras jewelry and beads on the wall free of tangles
Use Space bags – to keep your costumes in good condition for next year and free from dirt and debris.
Above all else, make sure you use a purple bin!
Have extra mardi gras beads? Donate them here.

How Clutter Affects Your Mental Health
Is it really that terrible to have a messy home?
Psychology Today reports:
“Clutter bombards our minds with excessive stimuli, distracts us, makes it more difficult to relax, makes us anxious, signals our brains that our work is never done, creates feelings of guilt, inhibits productivity, and frustrates us.”
It distracts us.
You want to focus on doing one task, but see the clutter from the corner of your eye, calling for your attention… Next thing you know you’re cleaning up instead of doing the task you wanted to do.
DO THIS: Clean your space after every use so you start a new day, clutter-free!
It makes it difficult to relax.
Our environment affects our mood. Clutter is not conducive to a relaxing environment. This frustrates us and stresses us out because we have a visual reminder that our home is not the way we want it to be.
DO THIS: Designate your room of relaxation as a clutter-free zone. Make a house rule that any other room can get messy except for this one.
It makes us anxious.
Clutter can make you feel like you’ve lost control of your home because you’ve “let things get away from you,” and now there’s this huge pile of things out of place. It would have been easier to sort through a few items here and there over time, but now you have one giant pile haunting you.
DO THIS: Ask someone for help to categorize the clutter into groups that you can tackle one by one.
It creates feelings of guilt.
Do you often criticize yourself and think, “I should be more organized?” That’s the guilt talking. Not everyone is born with the gift or taught the skill of organizing so you can’t expect to magically be organized without first developing the skill.
DO THIS: Allow yourself to improve your organization skills over time, and to create an organized system for one room at a time.
It inhibits productivity.
Instead of getting through our to-do lists, we add clutter to the list and create more work for ourselves.
DO THIS: Give your items a home and be sure to put things back in their homes after use so you don’t waste time looking for them or putting them back at a later time.
If you feel like your clutter has been affecting your mental health, let’s have a conversation.
