Getting Your Attic Organized

With the warmer weather coming soon, it’s time to get in your attic and get everything organized while it’s not too cold or too hot.

Here’s a few tips to get you started:

Categorize

As we always do with the C.H.A.O.S. Method, categorize all of your items first. Group all of your decor together according to which holiday they are for. Whichever category has the most items get the space closest to the attic door while the category with the smallest number of items goes furthest from the attic door.

Take Action

While you are categorizing, set aside any items that you are not using. Those items take up valuable space and should either be thrown away or donated depending on the item and its condition.

Bins

Now that everything is categorized and you’ve purged any items that you don’t use, it’s time to put all of your items into storage bins. You will want your bins to be plastic and not cardboard (cardboard attracts roaches, yuck!). The bins should also be ones that are easy for you to get in and out of the attic.

Label

Now that it’s all in bins, label everything! Each bin should be labeled with EVERY item that is inside the bin so there is no guessing when you’re trying to find something. For holiday decor, you can also label the bin with where those decorations will go in the house (i.e. mantle, front door, etc.).
